First, a banana leaf is removed from a tree, then cut into smaller squares which are stacked on top of each other. The squares are then bound together by a flour based paste, and placed into an iron bowl mold for five minutes, then are removed, trimmed, and the bowl is ready for use. Bowls can be made from any large leaf, and even bark husks from banana trees. Achan offers a lecture on the environmental benefits of using natural materials, the importance of composting and recycling, and finally a demonstration on how to make a banana bowl. Visiting groups include local schools, government officials, health departments, the military, and more.
